1. No Docking Station Required for the Desktop Mode
Although the Galaxy Note9 has a bigger display (6.4 inches) than its predecessor, there are times when you might want to connect your smartphone to an external monitor so that you can work more easily. With the smartphone’s DeX mode, you can create a desktop experience that’s driven by your device.
Although this feature was available in Galaxy Note8, you had to purchase a special docking station (DeX Station or DeX Pad) to take advantage of it. With Galaxy Note9, all you need is a standard USB-C to HDMI adapter (single or multiport) to connect your smartphone to a monitor.
2. Supports Up to 1 TB of Storage
Bringing along the files you need on business trips won’t be a problem with the Galaxy Note9, as it accommodates up to 1 terabyte (TB) of memory. The smartphone comes in two models. One model has 512 gigabytes (GB) of built-in memory, 8 GB of which is RAM. The other model has 128 GB built-in memory, 6 GB of which is RAM.
The smartphone also has a microSD memory card slot. Thus, you can expand the device’s memory another 512 GB, bringing the total up to 1 TB of memory if you have the 512 GB model.
3. Remotely Control Apps with the S Pen
Samsung has made several enhancements to the S Pen in Galaxy Note9. The stylus now includes Bluetooth low-energy technology for wireless connectivity, allowing you to remotely control apps up to 30 feet away from your device. For example, during a meeting, you can use the S Pen to advance the slides in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that is displaying on a large monitor connected to your device using the DeX mode.
Inside the S Pen is a small processor, which you need to recharge periodically by slipping the stylus back into the device. It takes only 40 seconds to fully charge the stylus.
4. Built for Long Work Hours
With its powerful battery, the Galaxy Note9 is ready for multitasking and long work hours. The smartphone has a 4,000-mAh battery, which is the largest battery yet in a Note device. Samsung claims that it will last all day under typical usage conditions. The Galaxy Note9 supports wireless charging for when you do need to recharge it.
Samsung has also improved the smartphone’s water carbon cooling system to keep the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor from overheating. According to Samsung, Galaxy Note9’s cooling system is three times better at heat dissipation than its predecessor, so you should be able to work longer without seeing a decline in device performance.
5. Latest Version of the Built-In Security Platform
The Galaxy Note9 comes with the latest version of Knox, Samsung’s security platform. Besides protecting against cyberthreats, Knox includes mobile device management (MDM) capabilities to help companies secure and manage employees’ devices. For instance, you can use Knox Manage to restrict employees’ access to certain apps and websites, as well as remotely wipe data if their devices are stolen or lost. With Knox Configure, you can remotely configure employees’ devices, push security patches, and deploy application updates.
Although Knox Manage and Knox Configure are integrated into the Knox security platform, these cloud-based solutions are licensed separately.
